Life Lesson #12 of my first 40 years: The power of self-reflection.
Life Lesson #12: The power of self-reflection.
Early in my career and life I didn’t realize the power of self-reflection – I would just get up every day and go through the motions expecting my life to change – and not much really did.
I now know that because of my commitment to self-reflection on a regular basis – I am where I am in my life – both personally and professionally.
And instead of going into some huge, deep, psychological reflection – I have found asking myself these 4 “power” questions on a daily basis has led to some profound lessons, as well as the motivation to keep moving forward. The 4 “power” questions are:
1. What’s working for me?
2. What’s not working for me?
3. What have I learned from this situation/day?
4. What will I do differently moving forward?
That’s it. Take the information from the self-reflection and move on (you can also use the questions for teams/families/etc.). Let go of what you need to let go of and move forward. Life is complicated enough, so don’t over-analyze everything so much that you hold yourself back.
