Life Lesson #6 of my first 40 years: Earn it.
Life Lesson #6: Earn it.
The final few scenes of the movie “Saving Private Ryan” (final battle and cemetery) are some of the most powerful scenes in the history of movie making in my opinion. They reiterate what my father has always taught me – nothing was ever going to be handed to me – if I wanted something I had to work hard and EARN IT.
I don’t believe I am entitled to anything in life if I don’t earn it. I believe I live in the greatest country in the world because I have the opportunity everyday to choose what I do for a living, who I do it with, and why I do it. And because of my commitment to earn it, I have been blessed with enormous amounts of success and happiness – that just didn’t happen.
If I wanted better relationships in my life – I had to earn them.
If I wanted more success in my career and life’s work – I had to earn it.
If I wanted more happiness in my life – I had to earn it.
The times where I have been passive in business and life are the times I have struggled. So I decided to no longer be passive – I was going to give every day my very best – that I was going to Earn It. And I can honestly say – that was one of the greatest decisions I ever made.
