Life Lesson #7 of my first 40 years: Don’t take things so personally.
Life Lesson #7: Don’t take things so personally.
You will receive a large amount of feedback from family, friends, co-workers, and strangers in your lifetime – the best advice I can give you is this – don’t take things so personally.
I used to get all caught up in my head in analyzing what people said and what they meant by it. Then I realized that I was using a lot of time and energy that in all reality wasn’t going to lead to a very good outcome.
If I needed clarity on the feedback – I learned to ask for it. And what I learned was that sometimes you just aren’t going to like the clarity and feedback that you receive.
That doesn’t mean you don’t respect the feedback. It doesn’t mean you don’t take it to heart. It doesn’t mean you ignore it. It just means that it’s feedback – it’s not personal. Be grateful for it and then you do with it what you wish – it’s your choice. You get to use it as a stepping stone or you choose for it to hold you back.
