Are you COMMITTED or just interested?

I am not going to lie, this morning I did not want to work out.

I worked out anyway.

I didn’t want to go outside and shovel more ice and snow (again) today.

I went out and shoveled anyway.

I didn’t want to do some of the things on my to-do list today.

I did them anyway.

Why? Because I said I was going to do those things.

Do you see where I am going with this?

There is a HUGE difference in being COMMITTED vs. just being INTERESTED.

Commitment can be defined as: Feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; wholeheartedly dedicated.

Wholeheartedly dedicated. I love that. That is ALL IN my friends – intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Most people “commit” to things, yet it’s only an intellectual commitment – it’s not all in.

And then they have every reason or excuse to why things don’t get done in their life. That person isn’t COMMITTED, they’re only interested.

Imagine what your life would be like if you actually lived up to your commitments….

What kind of relationship would you have with your significant other?

What kind of relationship would you have with your coworkers and people you serve?

What kind of opportunities would you create for yourself?

How would that make you feel about yourself?

I venture to say, that from experience, the answers to those questions will be…. “Awesome.”

Now, there is another side of this – in order to “wholeheartedly dedicate” yourself to things, you have to STOP OVERCOMMITTING.

That is one path that will lead to misery for you and everyone you are involved with because you cannot possibly bring your full gifts and talents to the table when you are overcommitted.

One of my favorite sayings is this….“You Have Reasons or You Have Results.” Period.

Choose to be EXTRAORDINARY at a few things by being COMMITTED, vs. being Good’nuff at everything because you are OVERCOMMITTED.
