How The Bright Blue Light Got Me.
As inspired, motivated and dedicated to my training for the Twin Cities Marathon as I am there are still forces out there that distract me from what is important. And that is true for all things that MATTER MOST in my life, not just running. I do my best to counter these forces, yet they are strong.
It is like the movie Finding Nemo where the dad fish is sooo focused on finding his son that you would think nothing could take his mind off of it until he finds himself in dark water and he sees a bright blue light that changes his focus. Now all eyes are on that blue light and it is as if his main goal of finding his son has all but disappeared.
That was me.
All day I had been looking forward to running afterI facilitated a review course on financial literacy. I came back to the hotel and was pumped and excited to get my running stuff on and get the run in before getting some rest. The next few days I would be facilitating Leadership from the Heart, a powerful results driven workshop that takes up all of my time for the 2 days.
As I was getting changed, I turned the TV on and there was football, and my drive to run started to fade away in the light of the NFL. And pretty soon it was dark outside and 15 minutes before I wanted to go to bed and I hadn’t even taken my shirt off. I realized that I had been eaten by the BLUE LIGHT.
In Finding Nemo the blue light is not just a pretty decoration, it is attached to a monster fish that eats those attracted to it’s light. In my case, football can be a dream eater for me. Watching that preseason game is not important and that night it ate my dreams because I did not do what I planned. If I don’t train at the level I need to, I will not finish the marathon.
It is important for me and you to identify the Blue Lights in our life, list them out and avoid them. Next time, I know that if I turn that TV on I am playing with a blue light and I will get eaten if I am not careful!
Here is today’s song of the day. Great song for overcoming that blue light that will eat your dreams.
