Life Lesson #17 of my first 40 years: Control is an obstacle to growth.
Life Lesson #17: Control is an obstacle to growth.
You can’t grow your business if you feel you have to control everything.
You can’t grow and develop your team if you feel you have to control everything.
You can’t grow and develop your kids if you feel you have to control everything.
You can’t grow and develop relationships if you feel you have to control everything.
You can’t grow and develop as a person and professional if you feel you have to control everything.
Are you sensing a pattern here?
You must learn to let go my friends. Think of how you got to where you are – it was from putting in the work – not from having others control things.
Professionally give the people around you a chance to grow, stretch, stumble, and learn as they go – give them direction/guidance and get out of their way. You hired them to do their job – so let them do it.
Personally you must do the same. Let your kids have a chance to grow, stretch, stumble, and learn as they go – give them direction/guidance and get out of their way. The only way they will grow into responsible adults is by letting them do the work.
I completely understand your desire to be involved, however being involved and having to be in control are 2 very different things. Learn to stay involved while supporting them, but let them do the work.
