Life Lesson #22 of my first 40 years: 100% or 0%.
Life Lesson #22: 100% or 0%.
Either be “all-in” on the things you decide to do, or don’t do them. Too many people are doing many things at a Goodnuff level versus doing a few things at an extraordinary level.
You don’t deserve Goodnuff. Your family doesn’t deserve Goodnuff. Your co-workers don’t deserve Goodnuff. And your community doesn’t deserve Goodnuff.
Goodnuff happens when you are so busy with so many things that you just show up and go through the motions. One of the greatest decisions I ever made was when I decided that I was going to step away from some great opportunities because I knew I couldn’t give it 100%.
The lesson I learned was that when I stepped aside, it allowed the space for someone to step in and give their 100% – what a wonderful opportunity for them. And I was able to move my time, talent, and energy to things that were higher on my priority list at that time – creating a win/win.
Now, when doing new things, taking risks, etc. – you may not feel at the beginning as if it is your best effort, yet give it everything you have. And then evaluate periodically (4 Power Questions from previous post) – what’s working and what’s not working for you.
If you are able to give 100% – keep doing it. If not – give 0% and step away and allow others to have the opportunity. That doesn’t mean you may not support in other ways or that you don’t believe in the cause, opportunity, or relationship, it just means that at this time, there are things in your life that need your 100% more.
