Life Lesson #23 of my first 40 years: Live up to your commitments.
Life Lesson #23: Live up to your commitments.
Do what you say you are going to do. Period. Otherwise don’t commit to doing it.
One of the biggest ways others judge how much they are going to trust you is by how well you live up to your commitments. If you live up to your commitments – people trust you. If you don’t live up to your commitments – people more often than not, don’t trust you.
One of the cautions here is overcommitment. Our society encourages us to “get involved” – and I fully support that – just not to a level where you are unable to live up to the volume of commitments you’ve made. Choose to commit your time, talent, and energy to the things that are most important to you, your family or your business/community.
If at any time you are unable to live up to your commitments – make amends, not excuses. Take responsibility, apologize, learn from it, and move forward.
