The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson
I have a TON of books on my “to read” shelf, but when I had the fantastic couple of Tim and Pamela Reynolds from Texas recommend this book AND I won it a few weeks later at a random drawing, I knew it was time for me to get into the book. And I am honored to say that it was a great choice! This book is very straightforward and honest with the reader that “get rich quick” ideas and thoughts do not truly exist and the true “slight edge” is in the moment to moment/daily choices that we make that ultimately lead to our success – personally and professionally. I found myself reflecting, participating, and highly “active” while reading this book, which = it is a great read!
I took ALOT out of this book, yet here are 3 of the main lessons I have taken away:
1. There are two “curves” in life – the Success Curve and the Failure Curve. They run parallel to each other on this spectrum we call life until you begin to trend up or down – the choice is yours. Are you willing to put in the “work” on a daily basis on the little things that are a part of the Success Curve, trusting that all of those pieces will add up to the creation of the Success Curve? Many people are not patient enough and thus they end up not doing anything or being passive, which puts them on the Failure curve.
2. Success stories of people that have come before us can teach us valuable lessons today. Realizing that people I have always looked at as “successful” weren’t that way all of the time – they put the Slight Edge to work for them by never giving up, staying focused on the daily progress that was needed to achieve their goals.
3. Everything you do, every decision you make, is either building your dream or building someone else’s dream. WOW! Are you going to take charge and responsibility for your life and dreams and make them happen? The Slight Edge is always working – either for you or against you – put the work in daily to make it work for you!
I highly recommend this book as part of your Success Library my friends! I guarantee that it will have a positive impact on your philosophy and actions in your life – helping you become more and do more.
